Born in Wales and a long-time resident of Bornholm, James Thomas is perhaps best known for his career in music, having written and produced songs for international artists including CHER and Beth Hart. Yet painting has remained a constant throughout his life – a first love that began in childhood and has now returned to the heart of his artistic practice.
James Thomas' artistic talent was recognised at an early age. In 1976, when he was just eleven years old, one of his works was selected for the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in London. At fourteen, he began studying art at Dyfed College of Art and Design in Wales. He was later accepted into St Martin’s School of Art in London but chose to leave his studies to pursue a career in music.

The title Limited Palette reflects both James Thomas' approach to colour and his close connection to the Bornholm landscape. A particular source of inspiration has been his love for the local beach at Sose, where the subtle shades of sand meet the intense depth of Prussian blue. This restricted palette becomes a starting point for works in which gesture, texture and emotion take precedence over purely representational painting.
The result is a series of works that exist somewhere between landscape and abstraction, where a place is not simply observed but equally experienced and felt.

– A heartwarming performance about finding yourself
The theatrical production Tak for livet (Thank You for Life) is intended for an adult audience and is written and performed by Sigurd Barrett. The performance is based on his autobiography Sigurd, Tak for livet, published by Politikens Forlag in November 2025.
Sigurd takes the audience back to a childhood shaped by adoption and feelings of inadequacy. We follow his struggle to build a career in music and his efforts to balance a busy professional life with family responsibilities – first as a father of five children and later of two more.
Tak for livet is a performance about love, marriage, divorce, falling in love and raising children – and about Sigurd's lifelong search for his biological father and his own identity.
The music, composed by Sigurd Barrett, takes the audience on a musical journey through the years 1967–2026.
A deeply personal and remarkably honest musical theatre performance, in which Sigurd engages the audience through his lively and moving storytelling.

About the book
Sigurd, Tak for livet tells the story of Sigurd, a household name throughout Denmark, whose life has largely revolved around children – his own seven children and the millions of children he has reached through music and storytelling.
It is a deeply personal account of being adopted at birth, growing up with loving adoptive parents and finding his biological mother at the age of 23. It tells the story of balancing private life and a career, of growing up with faith in God but not finding faith in himself until the age of 50.
And it is the story of his search for his biological father, to whom he longed to say three simple words: THANK YOU FOR LIFE.

Into Nature – The Wetlands of Ekkodalen. A walk with Morten DD Hansen and Michael Stoltze
In 2020, the major restoration of Ekkodalen’s wetlands and meadows was completed, and a remarkable variety of plant and animal life is now beginning to establish itself.
We visit the area and talk about how nature can be restored on former agricultural land – something Denmark will need to become exceptionally good at if the ambition of protecting 30% of its natural areas is to be achieved.
The two highly experienced biologists, Morten DD Hansen and Michael Stoltze, have extensive experience with nature restoration projects. They will explain how nature can return after centuries, or perhaps even millennia, of farming, and we will see what has already been achieved in the wetlands of Ekkodalen after just a few years of restoration work.
Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain. If the weather is particularly severe, the event will be cancelled and the participation fee refunded. Any cancellation will be announced on our website and on NaturBornholm’s website.

At Baltic Sea Glass, just south of Gudhjem, you can get up close to the glassblowers and discover the remarkable craftsmanship behind beautiful, unique glass creations.
In the rustic glass workshop, a skilled international team of glassblowers creates everything from one-of-a-kind works of art to elegant jugs, vases and drinking glasses.
Follow the fascinating process as a glowing gather of molten glass on the end of a blowpipe gradually takes shape through heat, movement and precise craftsmanship. It's a captivating experience for both children and adults.

Admission to the glass workshop is free, and everyone is welcome. On production days, the glassblowers usually work between 10 am and 3 pm, with a break around noon.

Fungi are fascinating. They can be microscopically small or spread across more than 9 km². They are found in forests, in our homes, in food – and even in your own body! Come and explore the remarkable world of fungi. Using a stereo microscope and a microscope, we will examine small fungi and lichens. We will also talk about the role fungi play in nature and how they are used in medicine, cosmetics, cooking and construction.

Endless sunshine in a spotless Bornholm state of mind
Karl Pava's debut EP, Drømmebarn, was released in September 2026, less than six months after the 21-year-old singer-songwriter released his first single, "Bingo". In a remarkably short time, he has established a distinctive musical world deeply influenced by his home island of Bornholm.
The island provides both the geographical backdrop for his music and the inspiration for Pava's personal stories.
On the track "Svaneke Havn", a summer romance from his hometown finds its way into his songwriting. Musically, his sound ranges from intimate acoustic arrangements to expansive, sweeping pop productions.
Karl Pava is at a time of change in his life, and this is reflected in his songs.
He writes about changing relationships, old perceptions of himself that are difficult to shake off, and people around him beginning to follow different paths. Self-deprecating humour sits alongside more serious reflections and has become a recurring feature of his lyrics.
Despite being relatively new to the music scene, Karl Pava has already performed at UHØRT Festival, KlangFest and SPOT Festival. He has also appeared at Lille VEGA as a support act for DeDerDrenge.
At its heart, Drømmebarn is about holding on to the imagination of childhood, when creativity feels limitless and anything seems possible.
Karl Pava brings this world to life at Smedjen on 7 November 2026, giving free rein to the emotions of youth.

Sandløber draws inspiration from Nordic jazz, but their music reaches beyond the genre, incorporating elements of alternative pop and rock. The result is an atmospheric sound that feels both intimate and expansive, melodic and experimental. With an approach to instrumental music that "speaks a language everyone can understand", they aim to bridge the gap between jazz's rich traditions and new listeners who may not yet be familiar with the genre.
In spring 2025, Sandløber released their debut EP, Gensyn, which received praise from P8 JAZZ and Danish music blogs. Following the release, the band toured Denmark, performing their music live, including an appearance in the Jazzkonkurrencen competition that spring. Alongside their live performances, the band has been working on their debut album, which is expected to be released in 2026.

How do we know that dinosaurs, plesiosaurs or trilobites lived on Bornholm millions of years ago, and how do we find traces of them? We will talk about the fascinating prehistoric animals that we know only from fossils and about how fossils are formed. Using real fossils as inspiration, you can shape your own prehistoric animal in a material from the past – clay – and then make a plaster cast of it to take home.

– New Nordic jazz with depth, intimacy and sonic poetry
Trombonist Lis Wessberg and vocalist Veronika Rud come together in a captivating musical world where the melancholy of jazz, Nordic lyricism and improvisation blend into a vibrant and moving concert experience. Drawing on Wessberg's cinematic and atmospheric compositions, the two artists create a sound that moves between the intimate and the expressive – the delicate and the powerful.
Lis Wessberg has long been one of Denmark's most prominent jazz musicians, earning widespread acclaim for her releases with the band Yellow Map. The albums Yellow Map (2021) and Twain Walking (2024) have both received five-star reviews in Denmark and internationally. Her warm, expressive trombone playing combines influences from Miles Davis and Chet Baker with modern soundscapes reminiscent of Talk Talk.
Veronika Rud is a singer and composer based in Aarhus. She is known for her warm voice, commanding stage presence and ability to blend melancholy with playfulness. Her debut EP, released in 2024, attracted considerable attention and received extensive airplay on P8 Jazz. Through her collaboration with Wessberg, she brings a new vocal dimension to an already rich musical landscape.
On stage, they are joined by an outstanding ensemble featuring some of Denmark's most experienced and charismatic musicians:

Together, they create a compelling concert experience filled with melodic trombone lines, expressive vocal storytelling and an atmosphere that ranges from deeply lyrical to intensely captivating.

– Christmas lights, festive atmosphere and cosy wooden stalls at Nexø Harbour
As darkness settles over Nexø Harbour, the Christmas lights come on and the small wooden stalls fill with life, festive scents and the warm atmosphere of a Bornholm Christmas. Bornholm Christmas Market returns in 2026, bringing Christmas cheer to the harbour throughout the Advent season.
Wander among the decorated Christmas stalls, where local Bornholm producers, craftspeople, associations and other local contributors welcome visitors. Find inspiration for Christmas gifts, taste local treats and perhaps discover something a little different from what you would normally find beneath the Christmas tree.
But Bornholm Christmas Market is just as much about the atmosphere itself. The scent of Christmas, a warm drink held in cold hands, lights glowing in the winter darkness and that special feeling that comes when people gather and Christmas slowly draws closer.
The market spreads its Christmas cheer across 15 opening days from the end of November until 22 December. The four Advent weekends form the heart of the market, with different activities and experiences along the way, giving you plenty of reasons to visit more than once.
On Thursday, 10 December, Nexø becomes even more festive when Hjerternes Fest is celebrated together with the rest of the town.

– Tunes of Tomorrow
With an energetic and modern take on grunge, heavy metal, skater punk and rock’n’roll, Ashes of Billy manage to combine the raw energy of youth with musical maturity – despite being just 17, 17 and 18 years old.
The trio, consisting of Daniel Aabenhus Hermann (guitar/vocals), Anton Stampe (bass) and Johan Borgaa (drums), have released three EPs since their debut in 2022 and have been working on a series of single releases, including Burned Out, Don’t Let Go, Never Gonna Get Me and Bleed (released in June 2025).
Their single Feel You Around also reached number five on Spotify Viral 50 DK, an algorithm-driven playlist featuring the 50 most shared and talked-about songs in Denmark – and it's pretty rare for rock music to make an appearance there at all!
In addition, Danish rock radio station MyRock has five of the band's songs in regular rotation, while P6 Beat, the world's best heavy metal programme Sort Søndag, and Alex Nyborg's Radio Mars also play AOB.
Despite an average age of around 18, the guys have already secured professional management with Prime Collective and representation by the well-established booking agency PDH.
And besides performing on some of the biggest stages, they have also supported bands such as Psyched Up Janis and Siamese – on 1 August 2025, they supported the legendary Ugly Kid Joe.

On Thursday, 10 December, Nexø becomes even more festive when Hjerternes Fest is celebrated together with the rest of the town.

Experience the fascinating transformation of molten glass into beautiful works of art
At Baltic Sea Glass, just south of Gudhjem, you can get up close to the glassblowers and discover the remarkable craftsmanship behind beautiful, unique glass creations.
In the rustic glass workshop, a skilled international team of glassblowers creates everything from one-of-a-kind works of art to elegant jugs, vases and drinking glasses.
Follow the fascinating process as a glowing gather of molten glass on the end of a blowpipe gradually takes shape through heat, movement and precise craftsmanship. It's a captivating experience for both children and adults.
Practical information
Admission to the glass workshop is free, and everyone is welcome. On production days, the glassblowers usually work between 10 am and 3 pm, with a break around noon.
Space for visitors is limited.

– Mansöngvar – unplugged
Mansöngvar is an old Old Norse word for love poems – and love songs. It is also the title of Jón Hallur Stefánsson's double LP, released in 2025, which was named Singer-Songwriter Album of the Year by Morgunblaðið, Iceland's largest newspaper.
For this intimate, unplugged concert at Svanekegaarden, the piano takes centre stage. Jón performs a selection of his songs, singing and playing piano, accompanied by cellist Anja Zdyb Lillemæhlum. The songs are in Icelandic, but throughout the concert Jón Hallur will share stories about the lyrics and experiment a little more than usual with translations.
Jón Hallur, who lives in Svaneke, has his musical roots in folk, art rock and punk, as well as Reykjavík's underground music scene of the 1970s. He has also explored rock and pop, while his work as a writer and poet clearly shines through in his music. Writing about the songs on Mansöngvar, Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen of Morgunblaðið says:
“The lyrics are wonderful, as are the little glimpses of everyday life, and the music is beautifully crafted … This is singer-songwriter music led by Jón Hallur's gentle, warm and slightly rough voice. The songs are melodic and melancholic, yet far from ordinary … There is a distinctly Scandinavian depth to the sound, somehow, while the atmosphere also recalls American indie music from the 1990s. Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel), Will Oldham and Robert Pollard (Guided by Voices). Tom Waits and Bob Dylan are not far away either.”
Copies of the double LP Mansöngvar will be available to purchase at the concert. On the album, Jón Hallur is accompanied by his brother Hermann on bass and guitar, his son Dagur on theremin, and an impressive line-up of musicians. These include former Sugar Cubes bassist Bragi Ólafsson, cellist Gyða Valtýsdóttir (Múm) and drummer Ólafur Björn Ólafsson (Sigur Rós and others), who also produced the album.
