Fräulein

Fräulein
– and they've even played at Wonder!
Anna, Emil and Jeppe met in Odense eight years ago and discovered they were made for each other. But the creative energy of their new friendship only really came to life during a later trip to a summer cottage – a trip that would end up defining their future.
It was there that their entrepreneurial egos went from running in different directions like three wild horses to pulling together as one team.
They went from envying each other to respecting one another, channelling their individual strengths into something greater together. Before long, they had written 10 songs.
Once those boundaries had been broken down, they went on to write 100 songs in a single year.
The band, made up of the three good friends, has won competitions organised by both Jelling Festival and Tinderbox, where the trio received the majority of votes from both the jury and the audience.
Their debut album produced a couple of radio hits, particularly the single Hvad vil du ha'. The band then wrote the World Cup song Vi gør det hele igen for the Danish women's national football team.
The band has played plenty of live shows, and performances at SPOT Festival, supporting acts such as Love Shop, and appearances at summer festivals including Smukfest, Wonderfestiwall, Jelling and Midtfyn have opened even more doors for them.
In 2026, the trio are beginning a new chapter, releasing new songs across several EPs that will eventually come together as an album.
Anna – vocals and guitar
Anna grew up in Esbjerg surrounded by her father's fascination with American hot rods, with rockabilly and Lynyrd Skynyrd blasting from the stereo. But a concert by The Police in Aarhus became a turning point in her life. That very same day, she bought a guitar and set off in pursuit of her dreams. Anna has also played drums in a punk band and, when she was quite young, sported green hair, studs and a mohawk as she rebelled against her comfortable, middle-class upbringing.
Her influences include Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Jack Antonoff, Taylor Swift, Lorde, Anne Linnet, Linda Perry, Portishead, Bruce Springsteen, The Cure and Fleetwood Mac.
Emil – bass, guitar and keyboards
Like Anna, Emil grew up listening to Green Day during his teenage years, and their combination of energy and melody left a lasting impression. “My dad took me to a Kashmir concert when I was 11, and it completely blew me away.”
He grew up in a family of schoolteachers and was sent to piano lessons in his first year of school with the strict Lilian. Later, he picked up his father's newly purchased guitar, which opened up a whole new direction for him. At 16, he won the title of best guitarist at an Emergenza music competition – in true crowdsurfing style. In the end, though, it was the bass guitar that really captured his heart.
Emil draws inspiration from Royal Blood, The Big Bang, D-A-D, Kashmir, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Simon & Garfunkel, Bonnie Light Horseman, Goldfish, Green Day, Diana Krall, Chet Baker and The Beatles.
Jeppe – drums
Like Emil, Jeppe grew up in Odense with music all around him, and he had drumsticks in his hands before he could even walk. At the age of 10, his passion for drumming really took off when he began lessons. Soon afterwards, his parents spent part of their limited student grants on a drum kit, and his path was set.
Since meeting Emil and Anna eight years ago, everything has fallen into rhythm, not least during the pandemic, when he practised drums for up to five hours a day while the band was unable to meet and play together.
His influences include Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, Stanley Donwood, Michael Strunge, Kate Bush, Future Islands, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie and Prince.
The name Fräulein
Pronounced roughly “froy-line”. Despite the German umlaut and diminutive ending, the band is Danish through and through. They had been invited to meetings at several record labels but still hadn't come up with a band name. Then, while walking up the stairs to one of those meetings, an incoming text message from a female friend in Germany sparked a conversation that led to the name.
A little extra about Fräulein
“We're all massive nerds who love playing weird board games and PlayStation – and above all, we're absolutely crazy about Star Wars. Another thing we all have in common is a love of good coffee.”
