Three musicians. Twelve poems. One unique experience
VI ER TOVE is a live ensemble that breathes new life into Tove Ditlevsen's poetry through newly composed music. Not simply as an illustration of the poems, but as an art form in its own right – where poetry and music meet with mutual respect and artistic integrity.
The ensemble brings together three distinctive musical personalities:
Carsten Mørch-Bentzen is a singer and interpreter of poetry with a rare ability to convey words with authenticity and presence. His voice opens up the poems without overinterpreting them.
David Rosenkilde is a guitarist and composer who has created the music around the poems' own rhythms and the natural musicality of their language. His compositions are precise, open and firmly grounded in musical craftsmanship.
Steen Rasmussen is an internationally acclaimed jazz pianist whose career includes collaborations with world-renowned artists and performances on some of the world's most prestigious jazz stages. He brings depth, subtlety and improvisational freedom to the ensemble.
The music
The musical expression moves between folk influences, lyrical sensitivity and jazz – simple and precise, allowing the words to take centre stage while harmonies and arrangements subtly shape the atmosphere and sound. The music creates an open space where listeners are invited into a dialogue with Tove's writing.
Proven on stage – ready to tour in 2027
VI ER TOVE have performed to full houses at Copenhagen Jazz Festival and the Danish Film Institute, and appeared at the prestigious Lauritzen Prize ceremony at Skuespilhuset in late summer 2026. Their concerts have deeply moved audiences, receiving consistently overwhelming responses.
VI ER TOVE have received exclusive permission from Tove Ditlevsen's relatives to set 12 selected poems to music and record them. In 2027, the ensemble will release a full album featuring all 12 songs – on vinyl and digitally – establishing the project as a lasting contribution to Denmark's cultural heritage.
VI ER TOVE is a unique meeting between the voice of one of Denmark's most beloved poets and three musicians who dare to let the words lead the way.
