Hellig Kvinde (Holy Woman) is a group of standing stones located by the roadside between Listed and Bølshavn near the mouth of Gyldenså. The largest stone – the “Hellig Kvinde” itself – stands on a low stone mound (cairn) and is surrounded by smaller upright stones arranged in an oval formation.
The site dates from the Iron Age and is an example of rune-less standing stones which in prehistoric times may have marked a grave or had another symbolic significance.
A local legend tells that the large stone represents a holy woman and that the smaller stones are her children, who were turned into stone to save them from danger. In earlier times, passers-by would greet the stones respectfully.
