Vang Granite Quarry is located on the northwest coast of Bornholm and was for more than a hundred years one of the island’s most important industrial workplaces. Granite extraction began in the late 19th century, and stone from the quarry was used in major construction projects both on Bornholm and elsewhere in Denmark. During its active years, many stonecutters and labourers worked here, and the area included its own buildings, machinery, and loading facilities. Production ended in 1996 when market conditions and demand changed for the stone industry.
After the closure, the quarry became part of the development project “Nyt Liv i Vang Granitbrud”, which made the area safer and more accessible as a public nature and cultural site. Trails, information boards, and viewpoints were added to allow visitors to explore the former industrial landscape safely.
Today, Vang Granite Quarry appears as a striking landscape with tall rock walls, terraces, granite surfaces, and visible traces of its industrial past. Old roads, stone-cut steps, and the remains of the former loading facilities at Vang Pier can still be seen. New trail routes make it possible to experience both nature and cultural history up close.
Vang Granite Quarry is now visited by hikers, nature enthusiasts, and guests who want to experience one of Bornholm’s most distinctive cultural landscapes. The combination of industrial history, geology, and open natural surroundings makes it an ideal stop when exploring Ringebakkerne and the northwestern part of the island.
