Allinge Harbour

The Allinge harbour area is one of North Bornholm’s most cherished gathering places, where summer unfolds in a lively and warm atmosphere. As the days grow long and bright, the quay fills with locals and visitors strolling among boats, rocky outcrops and small cosy corners, while the harbour’s natural charm shines through everywhere.

The harbour is carved directly into the granite – a distinctive hallmark of a true Bornholm harbour. The solid granite structures and the deep water tell the story of a time when ferries travelled regularly between Bornholm and Sweden. Today, Allinge is a sought-after destination for visiting sailors, and during the peak season the activity is so high that the boats often lie closely packed in the inner basin.

Around the harbour you’ll find a vibrant town environment with everything from handicrafts and small speciality shops to ice cream, restaurants and cafés that bring the atmosphere right down to the water’s edge. Summer days here have a special, calm energy, with people lingering to enjoy the surroundings as the mood gradually shifts from the buzz of late morning to the golden hours of the evening.

The harbour has also made a strong mark on the Danish map through Folkemødet, which each year attracts well over 100,000 visitors. During the festival, the area transforms into a dynamic meeting place filled with conversations, activities and experiences – and the harbour serves as a natural centre of local life.

Close to the harbour lies the outdoor venue Gæsten, where open-air concerts gather both locals and summer guests for relaxed and pleasant evenings. And if you follow the trails out of town, you’ll reach the Madsebakke rock carvings and the beautiful routes leading on towards Hammershus.

The Allinge harbour area is a place where history, nature and summer life blend effortlessly – a lively and inviting setting that draws people daily to experience the unique atmosphere of North Bornholm.

In 2021, Allinge Harbour was voted Denmark’s most beautiful harbour area in a nationwide competition organised by Historiske Huse. More than 3,000 Danes took part in the vote, and Allinge won ahead of 14 other nominated harbour environments from across the country. The award highlighted the harbour’s authentic character, its granite-carved construction and the historical traces that still shape the area – qualities that together create a unique and atmospheric harbour environment.
