An idyllic woodland lake above Gudhjem
Gråmyr is a small and atmospheric woodland lake in Gudhjem Plantage and a perfect destination for a walk from the centre of Gudhjem. The route climbs through the landscape behind the town, with several beautiful views along the way across Gudhjem and the Baltic Sea.
The lake itself lies peacefully surrounded by woodland and dense vegetation. The atmosphere here is completely different from the lively coastal town below, making Gråmyr a lovely place for a quiet break or a short walk around the area. There is no view of Gudhjem from the lake itself – the attraction here is the tranquil woodland setting and the nature surrounding the water.
Gråmyr was originally a small wetland, but in 1883 clay was excavated here as part of the expansion of Gudhjem Harbour. The area was later dammed, and the lake was used, among other things, as an ice-skating pond during winter.
Several standing stones and other traces of prehistoric activity can also be found in the woodland around Gråmyr, adding another layer of interest to the area.
