Gudhjem
Gudhjem is a truly special place and a favourite for many visitors to Bornholm. It is almost impossible to visit the island without also experiencing the town, its atmosphere and the surrounding nature. And of course, enjoying a Sol over Gudhjem at the local smokehouse is an essential part of the experience.
Gudhjem is built along a steep hillside and is regarded by many as one of Denmark’s most beautiful towns. The road leading down towards Gudhjem Harbour is notably steep, and on warm summer days the area is filled with both locals and visitors strolling among small shops, restaurants, cafés, galleries and specialist stores. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming – and this is one of the reasons why so many return year after year.
The harbour area offers a wide range of experiences and dining options and is one of Bornholm’s classic summer oases, where there is a lively and cheerful atmosphere for both children and adults – often with a large ice cream in hand.
From Gudhjem Harbour, ferries depart for Ertholmene, also known as Christiansø and Frederiksø, which together form Denmark’s easternmost inhabited island community.
From the harbour, visitors can also follow the beautiful coastal path towards Melsted – a short but rewarding walk with magnificent views over the sea and along Bornholm’s rocky coastline.
Gudhjem offers a wealth of exciting experiences.
