– views across Åremyr and woodland walks in the heart of Almindingen
Jomfrubjerget lies in the heart of Almindingen and is a lovely place to start a walk through one of Bornholm’s most rewarding forest areas. From the top, the landscape opens up towards Åremyr, a small lake surrounded by woodland below the hill.
You can sit down at the picnic tables, enjoy the view or use Jomfrubjerget as a starting point for a walk further into Almindingen. There is also a fire pit and parking close to the viewpoint, making it an easy place to stop even if you only have time for a short visit.
Jomfrubjerget also has an interesting history. Originally, Jomfrubjerget consisted of both Nordre and Søndre Jomfrubjerg. When Crown Prince Christian Frederik visited Bornholm in 1824, Søndre Jomfrubjerg was renamed Christianshøj. Today’s Jomfrubjerg is the northern summit.
Hotel Jomfrubjerget opened on the summit in 1891. For many years it was a popular destination for excursions into the forest and helped establish the area as a starting point for visits to the sights of Almindingen. The hotel burned down in 1974 and was never rebuilt.
Today, nature once again takes centre stage. Jomfrubjerget is well placed in relation to several of Almindingen’s other attractions, and from here you can continue on foot along forest roads and paths through the area. This makes it a good destination in its own right as well as a starting point for a longer walk in Almindingen.
