Almindingen lies in the very heart of Bornholm and is both the island’s largest forest and the fifth largest in Denmark. It offers a wealth of experiences set within magnificent natural surroundings and important historical monuments.

The forest covers a total area of approximately 5,000 hectares and was planted in the early 19th century.

Ekkodalen is a popular excursion destination for both locals and visitors and is Bornholm’s longest rift valley, stretching around 12 kilometres in length. The valley is up to 70 metres wide and features cliff faces rising up to 20 metres, renowned for their echo.

Rytterknægten is Bornholm’s highest point at 162 metres above sea level. From the observation tower on Rytterknægten, which reaches 184 metres above sea level, visitors can enjoy spectacular views, and on clear days it is possible to see most of Bornholm as well as Ertholmene and all the way to the coast of Skåne.

Among the most important historical sites in Almindingen are the two castle ruins: Gamleborg from the Viking Age and Lilleborg from the Middle Ages.

In Almindingen, visitors can also encounter a herd of European bison, which live within an enclosed area of approximately 200 hectares.
