The limestone quarry at Skelbro is located along Søndre Landevej in southern Bornholm, approximately 14 km south-east of Rønne. It is a disused limestone quarry where so-called Komstad limestone was previously extracted and used for building stone and cement production in the area.
The quarry is a geological site of interest with public access, and it is easily reached from a car park by the roadside. Fossils can be found at the bottom of the quarry, including fossilised orthoceratites (cephalopod shells) and trilobites, without the use of hammer or chisel on the limestone itself.
The limestone quarry forms part of the protected area around Skelbro and Risebæk, which was designated to preserve the area’s scientific values. A path leads from the quarry along the Risebæk stream towards the coast and on to a small waterfall.
