Melstedgård is an authentic, living farm museum located in Melsted near Gudhjem. The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience rural life from the 1800s, where the pace is slow, the atmosphere cozy, and guests can become an active part of the farm’s daily life. Here, nature’s resources and traditional crafts are central, and the museum provides an authentic break from modern everyday life.
At Melstedgård, visitors can try their hand at classic crafts such as basket weaving, tablet weaving, and making straw dolls in the creative workshop. There is also the opportunity to dress up in period clothing, play with straw on the old drying floor, or enjoy traditional board games in the beautiful ornamental garden. Guests can participate in feeding the farm animals and experience traditional activities like making palthæster (a type of thin pancake), rye porridge, mustard production, pancake baking, spinning, or soap making.
The museum offers guided tours of the old stub mill, where the miller shows visitors around, and rye bread is baked in the old stone oven. In Madkulturhuset (the Food Culture House), workshops are held for the whole family, and in Skafferiet (the Pantry), guests can enjoy coffee, cake, lunch, and ice cream, as well as purchase local products from Bornholm’s best producers.
