– an old legendary stone in Almindingen
Munken is a large granite boulder lying in a clearing in Almindingen, close to the forest path. The stone was carried here by the ice during the Ice Age and today rests on several smaller stones.
Munken was once counted among Almindingen’s rocking stones, but unlike the well-known Rokkestenen, it can no longer be moved. Over time, an oak tree has grown right up against the large boulder, adding to the distinctive character of the place.
Old legends are also connected with Munken. According to local folklore, the rocking stones rested on a large and indestructible diamond, and it was said that underground beings danced around the stones at night.
Munken lies directly beside the path that continues on to the well-known Rokkestenen in Almindingen, making it a natural little stop on a walk through the forest.
