Storeborg – also known as Grønneborg – is located on a prominent rocky outcrop above Spællinge Mose in the Kleven valley and is regarded as a possible refuge fort from the early Roman Iron Age. The site takes advantage of steep natural slopes to the east and southeast, while an earth-and-stone rampart once strengthened the more accessible northern and northwestern sides. Archaeological investigations also indicate traces of a stone-paved track leading up toward the fort area from the southwest.
Today, there are no visible ruins or clear structural remains at the site. Only the contours of the terrain and faint traces of embankments suggest that a fortified place once stood here.
Kleven and Spællinge Mose form a distinctive landscape of rock formations, wetlands and woodland. The former railway line through the valley now serves as a hiking and cycling path, making the area easy to reach. From the hilltop at Storeborg, visitors gain a good sense of the wetland and the characteristic terrain around Kleven.
Storeborg and Spællinge Mose are natural places to visit when exploring Kleven and Rutsker Højlyng, an area with both striking nature and traces of prehistory.
