Rock carvings are prehistoric images and symbols carved or incised into rock surfaces. They typically date from the Bronze Age and often depict ships, humans, animals, sun symbols and ritual motifs. Rock carvings are found in many rocky areas across the Nordic region and offer a rare insight into the beliefs, life and worldview of people in prehistoric times.
