The rock carvings at Blåholt in Slotslyngen were discovered in 1964, when rock slabs with carved figures were uncovered during fieldwork. The site is located in a natural landscape characterised by rocky terrain and heath, and the carvings form part of Bornholm’s rich tradition of Bronze Age rock art.
The motifs at Blåholt include cup marks and ship images, which are among the most common motif types found in Danish and Nordic rock carving sites. The cup marks consist of small round depressions carved into the rock, while the ship images show the characteristic lines associated with Bronze Age vessels.
The Blåholt rock carvings are an important example of the island’s prehistoric visual culture and offer a rare insight into the symbols and artistic expressions used by Bronze Age communities on Bornholm. The area is open and accessible today, allowing visitors to view the carvings on the exposed rock surfaces.
