For generations, Christianshøj has been a natural gathering place for the people of Bornholm. In more recent times, many have visited Christianshøjkroen and Kyllingemoderen for festive occasions.
At the site, several monuments commemorate important historical events:
- Memorial to Prince Christian Frederik’s visit to Bornholm in July 1824 – the later King Christian VIII. The memorial stone is about 7.3 metres tall and features several inscriptions.
- The Reunification Stone – erected in memory of Southern Jutland’s reunification with Denmark in 1920. It was unveiled on 15 June 1921 during a celebration, where County Governor Knud Valløe performed the unveiling and spoke about the day when justice triumphed over power, and when the eagle had to release the prey it had seized from Denmark 56 years earlier.
- The Bronze Statue of David – erected in 1950 in memory of four members of the Bornholm resistance movement. The statue depicts the Old Testament David with a sling.
Christianshøj lies beautifully in the heart of Almindingen Forest and is an excellent starting point for walks in the magnificent woodland. See the Danish Nature Agency’s signage for suggested hiking routes.
