Hjorths Ceramic Factory in Rønne was founded in 1862 and today functions as a working museum where visitors can experience both historical surroundings and active ceramic production. The factory operates in its original buildings, and ceramics are still produced here using traditional methods. The clay is collected in the factory’s basement, processed, thrown, dried, glazed, and fired on site, and each item is handled many times throughout the process.
Visitors can explore the workshops, kiln rooms, and production areas where the ceramics are made, as well as exhibitions featuring both historical and contemporary pieces from the factory. Hjorths also offers ceramic activities and courses, where children and adults during holiday periods can try throwing and working with clay under guidance.
Hjorths Ceramic Factory today functions as a working workshop and museum, where ceramics are still produced in the same setting as more than 150 years ago.
