Rispebjerg

Rispebjerg is an open and hilly cultural landscape on Bornholm with visible traces of several thousand years of human activity. The area contains prominent remains from the Late Stone Age, where excavations have revealed a large complex with palisades and ritual constructions dating to around 2800 BCE, including postholes and sun-oriented features indicating that the site had a religious function. Pottery and amber from the same period have also been found.

From the Iron Age there are traces of cultivation, field systems and use of the area, and the terrain shows clear evidence of early agricultural activity. In the Middle Ages a small village was located at Rispebjerg, and traces of buildings, earth dikes and field boundaries have been preserved, continuing to shape the area into modern times.

Today, Rispebjerg is a nature and cultural-historical site with marked trails and information boards. The many visible structures in the landscape provide a clear impression of the area’s long continuity from the Stone Age through the Iron Age and the Middle Ages to the present.
