Sankt Ols Kirke

Sankt Ols Kirke
Sankt Ols Church, located in Olsker south of Allinge, is the tallest of Bornholm’s four round churches. The church dates back to the Middle Ages and is believed to have been built around the year 1150. It is dedicated to Saint Olaf, the Norwegian king and martyr, whose name was given to many churches in the Nordic and Baltic regions during the medieval period.
The building is constructed of fieldstone and features the distinctive circular floor plan characteristic of Bornholm’s round churches. Its thick walls and unique shape reflect the dual role these churches played in the Middle Ages, serving both as parish churches and as secure structures in times of unrest.
Inside, the church contains a simple, whitewashed interior with historical elements from several periods. The baptismal font dates from the Middle Ages, while other furnishings — such as the altarpiece and pulpit — were added later in the church’s history.
Sankt Ols Church remains an active parish church and is also a popular destination for visitors. With its striking architecture and its position in the open landscape surrounding Olsker, it is one of the most distinctive and photographed buildings on Bornholm.
