Sommerlunden is located on the outskirts of Nexø and brings together tropical butterflies, impressive sand sculptures, green gardens, creative activities and a café in one experience for both children and adults.
Inside the tropical house, you can walk through a warm and lush environment where colourful butterflies fly freely among the tropical plants. You can also discover small frogs, tropical fish and parrots among the many tropical plants.
The experience continues outdoors in Sommerlunden’s green surroundings. Throughout the garden, you will find 20 large and highly detailed sand sculptures created by international sand artists. In 2026, the theme is Hans Christian Andersen, with sculptures interpreting characters and scenes from his famous fairy tales. The sculptures are made from clay-rich sand from Klemensker, which allows the artists to create their intricate details.
Sommerlunden also includes Sandstenshaven, Morbærhuset with creative activities, and a woodland area with space for children to play. At Drivhuscaféen, you can take a break and enjoy something to eat or drink surrounded by greenery.
Sommerlunden was created by bringing together the former Bornholms Sommerfuglepark and Nexø Sandskulpturer, which was previously housed in the old silos at Nexø harbour. The result is a distinctive Bornholm attraction where nature, animals, art and activities come together in one place.
