Gun Emplacements G3 and G4 are hidden in the pine forest at Dueodde and are the remains of a large German coastal artillery battery from the occupation of Bornholm. Construction began in 1940, when the German armed forces planned a battery consisting of four gun emplacements equipped with enormous 38 cm guns. The battery was intended to protect German shipping and prevent enemy operations in the waters south of Bornholm. Only two of the emplacements were started, and construction was abandoned in 1941 before any guns were installed.
Today, G3 and G4 remain as massive, unfinished concrete structures among the trees. G3 is the best preserved and measures approximately 30 × 40 metres. The open chambers, thick walls and huge foundations give a clear impression of the scale the completed installation would have reached.
Visiting the gun emplacements offers a different side of Dueodde’s otherwise peaceful landscape. Here, pine forest meets modern history, and the hidden bunkers tell the story of an ambitious military project that was never completed. G3 is the easier of the two emplacements to find and is located close to Skrokkegårdsvej.
