Bølshavn

Bølshavn is a small and idyllic coastal village on Bornholm’s north-east coast, located between Gudhjem and Svaneke. The village lies away from the main tourist flows and has preserved much of its quiet character as a small fishing village with a harbour, rocky coastline and traditional houses close to the Baltic Sea.

The small harbour is the village’s natural gathering point and provides shelter for smaller boats and dinghies. The harbour is simple and easy to take in, but that is a big part of its charm. Here, you clearly sense the quieter side of Bornholm’s coastal life, where the sea, the rocks and the small houses create a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

The coast around Bølshavn is characterised by rocks and a stony beach, but it is also possible to swim from the area by the harbour. The harbour has a few facilities, including a toilet, tables and benches. Access and opening times may vary by season. In the village, you will find Louisekroen, which is especially known as a place to eat during the season.

Bølshavn lies directly on the coastal path, which runs all the way around Bornholm. The stretch between Gudhjem and Svaneke passes Melsted, Bølshavn and Listed, among other places, and offers a varied walk close to the sea with small fishing villages, rocky coastline, half-timbered houses and nature experiences along the way.

Near the harbour, there is also a protected redoubt, bearing witness to the area’s older coastal defence. It is not large or dominant in the landscape, but it gives Bølshavn an extra historical layer and is a reminder that Bornholm’s small harbours and landing places have also had strategic importance over time.

Bølshavn is therefore a good place to experience a quieter and more unspoilt part of Bornholm’s east coast – with harbour, rocks, coastal path, history and calm Bornholm atmosphere gathered in one small place.
