Svaneke
Svaneke truly comes into its own during the summer months. When the light is high and life moves out into the streets and down towards the harbour, the town takes on an atmosphere that is both lively and relaxed. There is plenty of activity, but the pace is calm, inviting you to slow down, look around and stay longer than planned.
The small market town on Bornholm’s east coast is known for its dense concentration of skilled craftspeople. In summer, workshops and galleries are open, and distances are short between glass and ceramics, textiles, jewellery and visual art. Visitors often meet the artists themselves when visiting their shops and workshops.
The harbour and the square serve as the town’s natural meeting places. Locals and visitors come together here, and the atmosphere is shaped by cafés, restaurants and small shops with views across the Baltic Sea. Market days add further life to the town during the summer season.
The well-preserved houses, cobbled streets and compact town layout make Svaneke easy to explore and welcoming. In 2013, the town’s overall character and architectural quality were recognised when Svaneke was named Denmark’s most beautiful market town. It is a title that reflects the overall experience of the town, particularly in the summer months.
